The restaurant was first opened in December 1969, and quickly established itself as the top restaurant in Wimbledon for the next four decades. The word 'Fuoriporta' means beyond the city walls, a medieval Italian expression used somewhat humorously at a time when Wimbledon was considered by many Londoners to be a country village. Still, many of those Londoners would often come to Wimbledon on Sundays to enjoy the food and atmosphere of this suburban gem. Following the outstanding success of it's SW3 progenitor, SAN LORENZO FUORIPORTA has built upon that success by adhering to a classic, Tuscan-rooted culinary style which evolves from traditions of quality and simplicity. Many patrons were small children when they first came to San Lorenzo with their families. Nowadays they bring children of their own, and the cycle continues. Many of the world's most celebrated tennis stars also regard it as a home away from home, returning each year to familiar comforts. A truly rare London restaurant, SAN LORENZO FUORIPORTA strives earnestly to retain its reputation as one of London's most enduring and authentic Italian restaurants. | ||||
